For Pete’s Sake Fashion Show

For Petes Sake Logo

I was fortunate enough to be asked to be part of the ‘For Pete’s Sake’ mini fashion show last Thursday. The event was hosted by PIA Galway and was to raise funds for a trust that hopes to provide much needed cancer treatment for Pete, an Oranmore man, aged 40, husband and father of 3, who was suddenly struck with an aggressive cancer last year. Following months of extensive chemotherapy it is now apparent that the only option remaining, is to travel to New York for life saving treatment and medication that is not available here in Ireland.

Hosted by the lovely Denise Manning, the owner of PIA, and Sophie Small, the evening started off with complimentary wine and canapés provided by Delicious Catering and J&C KennyGuests got a chance to mingle, meet people and browse all the gorgeous clothes throughout the boutique before a short introduction from Claire Gannon from the trust and Denise and Sophie from PIA.

Giving some hints and tips

Giving some hints and tips

Following that, I got the chance to give my top 3 hints and tips before the fashion show, which featured past and present Miss Galway’s, got underway. We were lucky enough for Leah Tiernan (current Miss Galway), Laura Fox (2013 Miss Galway), Nicola Corcoran (the current Galway Rose), previous Miss Galway Sophie Small and a special guest appearance from Pete’s daughter Molly, to give up their time and model for the show.

Overall it was a lovely evening and I was delighted to be a part of it – I even managed to come away with one of the spot prizes!. I loved providing tips to all the guests on techniques and products for their skin types and how to apply different types of make up. I also got the chance to meet Sinead Caroll from ‘Yummy Mummy Fashion & Lifestyle Blog’ and talk about the blogging community here in the West of Ireland.

If you’re looking for a special outfit for a Communion, Christening, or the Galway Races, it’s definitely worth popping into see Denise as she will be only too happy to help you and choose outfits that will suit your body shape and style….she’s absolutely fab!

I hope that the evening managed to raise a good bit of money for the trust.

Bridal Month – Look 4 – Vintage Make Up

Vintage Wedding imageWhen I meet with brides for their trial and discuss the look they want to achieve for their wedding day, they generally respond with one of two answers; ‘Natural Look’ or a ‘Vintage Look’. For the ‘Vintage Look’ it’s generally because the theme of the day is centred around this, so they will have their make up all tied in with the dress and the hair. I tend to find that this look is popular with brides that are used to wearing a strong lip on an every day basis and like quite a strong make up look. It’s certainly not something that I would recommend a bride try for the first time on her wedding day. Least of all the groom might be a bit surprised when he turns to watch you walking down the aisle. As with all these looks that I have posted this month, there are lots that you can change. I’ve gone for a strong eye and strong lip, but you can always tone either one of them down to what you are comfortable with. With the lip this can be changed to a tone of red lipstick that suits your skin tone or a completely different shade, such as a plum, or burgundy colour if that’s what you feel more comfortable with. However, if you are going for a strong colour on your lips, do be prepared that this takes a little more up keep than if you were simply wearing a gloss.

Products used for this look

Products used for this look

Below is a product list that I used to achieve this look and a little information on how it was applied:

FACE
Primer – Laura Mercier Primer – applied mainly to the T Zone of the face
BUFF Sheer Glow in Moviestar – this gives a really nice glow to the skin. A small amount applied all over the face with a foundation brush. As you can see from all the previous looks, I always use this on my brides
Foundation – MAC Full Coverage Foundation – This is another popular foundation with brides that like a fuller coverage from their foundations. It’s an emolient-based formular that provides opaque coverage. As it’s water-resistant and long-wearing it’s perfect for a wedding. It also doesn’t contain an SPF, so there is no risk of flashback in the photos. I used a Real Techniques Stippling Brush to apply this
Concealer – MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – simply the best concealer on the market. It doesn’t crease, has great coverage and lasts all day. This was applied under the eyes, down the centre of the nose, through the brow bones, on the cupid’s bow and in the centre of the chin
Contour – NARS Laguna Bronzer – used to contour the hollows of the cheek, along the temples and under the jaw line
Blush – MAC Melba – applied to the apples of the cheeks with a MAC 168 brush and then blended up
Highlighter – MAC Soft &  Gentle – a very small amount applied to the top of the cheek bones and through the brow bone, as this look isn’t really about the highlighting. It’s more of a matte look
Powder – Rimmel Stay Matt Powder – my good old faithful translucent powder, applied to most of the face to create a matte finish

EYES
Brows
– Anastasia Brow Whizz in Ash Blonde Eye
Primer
– MAC Painterly – all over the lids

Eye Shadow – MAC Brule all over the lid, MAC Cork and Kid through the crease and a little bit of Espresso to give some more depth
Eyeliner – MaybellineEyestudio Lasting Drama Eyeliner in Black
Mascara – YSL Babydoll
Lashes – KISS Natural

LIPS
Pencil
– MAC Brick pencil to line the lips and fill them in – this will ensure that the lipstick lasts longer

Lipstick – M.A.C Red – apply, then blot with a tissue and re-apply. This will ensure that the lipstick lasts longer.

Spring Look using High Street Make Up

This is the first of my Friday posts that will feature a new look each week. Given that this week has given us a spring in our steps with the lovely appearance of the sun, I thought it was appropriate … Continue reading

Top 5 Beauty Bargains under €12

The high street is packed with great make up and beauty products these days and you really don’t have to spend huge money on make up to get great products. I can often been found in the make up aisles of my local Boots store discovering what new (and old) products are out there. I just love that feeling when you discover a high street product that beats a high end product to touch, it makes you feel like you’ve got such a bargain (or is that just me)? I have numerous favourites from the high street, but these are my top five that you can pick up for under €12.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter
I absolutely love these lip products since I bought two last month. I find that lipstick for the day is sometimes just a bit too much for me and these are the perfect solution. Revlon describe them as somewhere between a lipstick and a lip balm and I would totally agree. Packed with mango, shea and coconut butter, they are extremely moisturising but without having a strong scent. I bought Tutti Frutti and Macaroon and can’t get enough of Tutti Frutti. It’s a beautiful coral colour that’s not too overbearing and the beauty of these products is that you can build them up to increase the intensity. Macaroon is also a gorgeous pinky/plum colour, but probably slightly too pink for me, I tend to prefer peachy/pink colours. Currently available in 21 shades, there is definitely a colour out there for everyone!
€11.20 and there is currently a 3 for 2 offer on selected Revlon products in Boots.

Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama Mascara
Best high street mascara….FACT! I have been using this mascara for well over a year at this stage and is a staple in my kit….especially the waterproof version for my bridal clients! I have tried numerous mascaras over the years and this is by far the best in this price range. I recently tried Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara which has been so hyped and I still find the Maybelline one far better. I often think that finding the ultimate mascara, that suits you and your lashes is a bit like hunting down the perfect pair of jeans to suit your body and shape. It’s not a pleasant experience, but once you know what you like, you stick to it!
€11.99 and there is currently a 3 for 2 offer on selected Maybelline products in Boots

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
Another staple in my kit alongside my higher end concealers, and by no means the poor relation. The consistency is lovely and creamy and it offers great coverage, able to cover the worst under eye dark circles as well as blemishes. It comes with a great applicator and lasts amazingly on the skin.
€6.49

Rimmel Stay Matte Transparent Powder
This product is such fantastic value. At just €5.99, it’s a bargain. I have been using mine every day for about a year and am still only about half way through it. It’s a lightweight powder and it’s free of talc, which means that it won’t clog the pores. As someone who normally has oily skin, this product offer me a matte look complexion for most of the day.
€5.99

Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner
There are so many gel eyeliners on the market these days, but very few good high street offerings. This is by far the best product. Available in various shades, it’s waterproof, smudgeproof and as with the Collection 2000 concealer it is no different from the more expensive high end brands. I actually much prefer this to the MAC and Clinique versions as find the pot doesn’t dry out as quickly, which is great as I don’t want to regularly be replacing it in my kit when it’s no where near being finished. It evens comes with a brush applicator, making it even better value.
€11.99 and there is currently a 3 for 2 offer on selected Maybelline products in Boots

Have you tried any of the above? If so, what are your thoughts?
