April Favourites

All the chocolate eggs have been eaten and another month has passed and that means another lot of products that I have discovered (or rediscovered in some cases), that I thought I’d tell you about. Here;’s what I have been loving throughout the month of April;

REN Serum

REN Serum

REN SKINCARE – ‘Keep Young and Beautiful Firming and Smoothing Serum’ – I figured it was time to grow up and stop relying on serum samples that I get everytime I order something online! So I did a bit of research and found Ren Skincare very helpful on Twitter and decided on this particular serum. It is a bit of a minefield choosing skincare products, so definitely worth looking into what’s right for your skin. So far, I’m really happy with this one. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and apply it both morning and evening time after I’ve toned my skin and before I apply my moisturiser. It’s not cheap at €54, but claims to keep your skin looking younger for longer by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which is always a winner in my eyes. I also think that it will last me a few months so it’s not too bad. There is one thing I really don’t like about this product and it’s the smell. When you really rub it into the skin it just doesn’t have a pleasant smell which really annoys me!! (silly I know). My skin definitely feels smoother and softer to touch so I’m going to keep with it and hopefully reap the benefits.

Tanya Burr - Champagne Toast Lip Gloss

Tanya Burr – Champagne Toast Lip Gloss

Tanya Burr – Champagne Toast – Whilst I do try to make an attempt to wear more colour on my lips, I just can’t help myself by going back to the neutrals and this lip gloss to me is just perfect. Worn on it’s own it’s a gorgeous glassy effect that is a sort of clear, golden colour. It’s also the perfect gloss to put over lipstick and I’ve been wearing it over my Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter and my Charlotte Tilbury ‘Penelope Pink’ lipstick. Every time I wear it, I always get compliments (which is always nice). Plus it smells divine!
Available from http://www.feelunique.com or http://www.cloud10beauty.com for €8.50

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream – This has to be my stand out product from all my PowderPocket boxes so far. I had previously been using the L’Oreal Nude Magique CC Cream if I didn’t want to go for a fuller coverage and was having a ‘less make up’ day. But I did find that it gives my skin a bit of an orangey colour and if I’m not tanned or just looking a bit pale, it’s really noticeable. The Ginvera BB Cream does everything you want from a BB Cream. The Ginvera Green Tea Skin Care range hails from Singapore and is much loved through out South-East Asia. It’s enriched with premium Green Tea, Ginseng, Chinese Angelica and Hyaluronic Acid. This BB cream provides the benefits of blemish free concealing, sun block effects (SPF 30), moisturising and reduction of lines, providing a long lasting smooth and ultra light feel to nourish and perfect your skin. It says it’s suitable for all skin tones, but I’m not sure how it would look on a really dark skin. I love how this goes on the skin and it really does give the skin a flawless look. If you had any really red blemishes then you probably would need to add some concealer. I’ve just repurchased this as I will be included in my hospital bag when I have the baby, as it’s the perfect skincare product to make me look more human. A total winner all round and it gets a big thumbs up from me!
Available from http://www.janiro.co.uk for £18 + P&P

Sleek Make Up Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Make Up Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Make Up EyeBrow Stylist – I purchased the medium in this and was intrigued to see if it would be a good alternative to the Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift pencils, as I can only lust after these. I have been pleasantly surprised by the cheaper Sleek option. At first I wasn’t too taken with it, but after giving it another try, it’s now my everyday brow product. I find that the waxy pencil gives a really nice look to the brows that is quite natural which is due to the rich creamy formula which is matte and velvety. I also love the fact that at the other end of the pencil there is a brush to groom the brows into place. The tip is thicker than most normal eyebrow pencils which means that you can make both thin and thick strokes for outlining and filling.
Available on http://www.cloud10beauty.com or http://www.sleekmakeup.com for €7.49

Blank Canvas E10 Brush

Blank Canvas E10 Brush

Blank Canvas E10 (Small Socket Blending Brush) – This little beauty was a free gift with my last order from Blank Canvas and had been rather neglected until recently. It’s turned out to be an absolutely fantastic brush. As someone that doesn’t have huge space between my eyelids and my brow, some blending brushes can sometimes be a little too large and you don’t tend to get the exact look you are looking to achieve. Thanks to the fine bundle of fluffy bristles, it really just concentrates product into the crease whilst still blending it. It’s also great for getting a really defined shade into the crease if that’s the look you’re going for. I will definitely be purchasing another one for my kit.
Available from http://www.blankcanvascoosmetics.com for €6.99

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation – I had forgotten that I had this foundation tucked away in my make up collection as hadn’t used it for a couple of months and had therefore forgotten how good it is. Nars Sheer Glow will always be my outright favourite foundation, but this comes very close to it. It is essentially almost a perfect match for it. The coverage is medium, but can be built to a fuller coverage when buffed into the skin. The finish leaves a slight illuminating, fresh glow, without being too much, which is exactly like the Nars one. It claims it lasts all day, but I’m not sure it would on combination skins. If you have a normal or slightly dry skin type then I’d say you’d have no bother with this. Overall a fantastic dupe for the Sheer Glow given it is a third of the price.
Available from Boots and pharmacies nationwide for €9.95

So that’s what I’ve been loving for the month of April. What’s you’re stand out products of April been?

Thanks for reading.

March Favourites

Daffs

I love Daffodils around the house at this time of year

The daffodils are out, the sun has been making a slightly more regular and welcomed appearance and there’s definitely a spring in everyone’s step, which can only be a good thing. All of a sudden Easter is around the corner and I found myself yet again at the end of another month and late getting my favourites post up, so apologies! Here’s a few things that I have been loving in March:

March Favourites

March Favourites

Nars Duo in Sin & Casino

Nars Duo in Sin & Casino

NARS Blushers in Sin – This was one of my products from my “Lust List – Autumn/Winter” post back in November last year and I decided to order it when I needed a couple of NARS foundations for my kit. It’s actually part of a Duo Blusher set which comes with a bronzer in Casino, which is a very similar shade to Laguna. This was ideal for me as I wanted both products and was cheaper than buying both separately. Sin is a really pretty berry/purple colour with a slight golden shimmer through it and it’s a really nice alternative to all my normal pink or peach blushes. Casino is a nice dark brown, again with a slight golden shimmer through it.

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in 'Picnic in the Park'

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in ‘Picnic in the Park’

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in ‘Picnic in the Park’ – In March, I treated myself to an online spree and top of my list were some of the items from the Tanya Burr range of lip glosses and nail polishes. I was tempted to purchase the whole lot, but managed to hold myself back and bought First Date, Afternoon Tea, Just Peachy, Champagne Toast and Picnic in the Park. The latter I thought would be my least favourite out of all of them, simply because it’s quite a bright pink colour which doesn’t normally suit me. But I absolutely love it. These lip glosses are super pigmented and are almost a lip stick and gloss in one. You certainly wouldn’t need a lipstick underneath them. When they are first put on, I find them a bit too much, but it’s as if they then calm down a little and settle into the skin. The applicator makes it super easy to apply and the lasting power is amazing. Compared to my MAC glosses they definitely last longer.

Bright and Early1

Tanya Burr Nail Polish in ‘Bright & Early’

Tanya Burr Nail Polish in ‘Bright & Early’ – As part of the spree I did online I bought four nail polishes from the Tanya Burr range; Bright & Early, Peaches & Cream, Little Duck and Mini Marshmallows. I have been looking for a spring coral colour for a while and ‘Bright & Early’ is the perfect one. As the name suggests, it is quite bright and perfect for Spring/Summer as we all know by now, corals and oranges are always on trend for this time of year. The quality of these products, as with the lip glosses is very good. The brush does carry a lot of product and I don’t think it’s as good as the brushes that you get with the Rimmel nail polishes, but that aside they are lovely polishes. The range of colours is excellent, with 10 different shades there is definitely a polish for every mood.

MAC Blush in Harmony

MAC Blush in Harmony

MAC Harmony Blush – I have fallen back in love with this product. Having started using so many other products for contouring such as NARS Laguna, Sleek Contouring Face Kit and Soleil Tan de Chanel, this has been slightly neglected in my kit and I’d forgotten how good it is. But it has now become a regular product and I quite often like to layer it on top of the Soleil Tan de Chanel for a lasting effect for bridal work.

HD Brows at Chez Elaine

HD Brows at Chez Elaine

HD Brows – Chez Elaine (www.chezelaine.com) – We all know that brows are still a big thing, and it looks like that’s not going to change anytime soon. I’ve been going to Chez Elaine in Galway for the last 12 months to grow and re-shape mine and am really happy with them. Elaine Barrett is an absolute expert in HD Brows and even has a whole room dedicated to it in her new gorgeous salon in Galway. She has also been featured on TV3’s Exposé talking about HD Brows. Elaine knows exactly what suits each face shape and how to create the perfect brow. Initially she advised me to use a serum to grow mine, before starting the HD treatment and I’m delighted with the results so far….they are not quite 100% perfect yet, as I still need to grow them a little more in places, but they are still well on their way to being fab.

Blank Canvas F20 Brush

Blank Canvas F20 Brush

Blank Canvas Cosmetics F20 Flat Buffer Brush – I recently bought a few brushes from Blank Canvas as was keen to try them out as they have been getting rave reviews in the blogging sphere. And the positive reviews are totally deserved! They are fantastic brushes at very reasonable prices. So far, out of the 5 that I bought, I haven’t had any problems with them shedding or leaving hairs on the face etc. I use the F20 brush for applying my liquid foundation which has short, dense synthetic fibres that are really soft on the face and it really does leave a flawless finish to the face. I find that I don’t need as much foundation as with other brushes, which is always a bonus. Foundation is probably the thing I spend the most time on, to really buff it into the skin, and I find that this brush is excellent. I will definitely be buying a couple of these for my kit.

Babyliss Boutique Waves

Babyliss Boutique Waves

Babyliss Boutique Soft Waves – As someone that cannot do anything with her hair, this product has been a revolution for me! If you just want a really easy and fairly quick jazz up of the hair, then this is the product. The barrel is quite thick and so it’s great for any of you gals that are blessed with thick, long hair. There are various different heat settings and it even comes with a glove you can wear so as not to burn yourself. As the name suggests, it gives a soft loose wave and with a simple run of the fingers through your hair, you’re done.

So have you been loving any particular products this month? If so, what?

Thanks for reading and have a nice weekend.

February Favourites

Where is this year going? How is it March already? Well the good news is that hopefully spring is on the way and the weather might actually improve if we all cross our fingers enough! I have been trying out quite a few products this month so here’s what I’ve been loving:

academie bronz express

Academie Bronze Express – Introduced to me via January’s PowderPocket box, this is now a firm favourite of mine. When applied with a tanning mitt it goes on so easily, you can see how much you are applying and therefore layer it up as needs be. There is very little smell from it and I haven’t found it to rub off on clothes, this is probably because it dries extremely quickly, so you will need to work fast with it. Also, I would very much recommend applying this with a tanning mitt rather than with your hands or with rubber gloves. My trusted St Tropez tanning mousse has well and truly been shoved off the shelf to make way for this new addition!
Retail Price – €14.95

BUFF-HD-Foundation-with-box-34-90x90

Buff Make Up HD Foundation – Whilst not a new brand to the market, it’s a new brand to me and boy am I glad I found it. So much so, it’s sneaked its way into this month’s favourites as well as into my make up kit. I’ve been so impressed with this foundation so far that I’ve already started using it on brides for their trials with really great feedback. It’s definitely not for those of you who like the natural look and aren’t used to wearing much foundation as it’s definitely a full coverage foundation with very good pigmentation, so a little goes a long way. Which is just as well, as you only get 20ml in a bottle as opposed to the standard 30ml you do with most other foundations and it costs €30. Buff claim that it’s suitable for all skin types, although I would be very hesitant to use it on very oily skin as I’m not convinced it would last on the skin. As someone who has combination skin, I can vouch that it lasts very well on my skin type. It leaves a really lovely dewy finish to the skin and given it’s HD formula, it’s ideal for brides and editorial work.
Retail Price – €30

BUFF-Sheer-Glo-with-package-90x90

Buff Make Up Sheer Glo – Another purchase from Buff Make Up from when I did one of their workshops at the beginning of February with the amazing Tara O’Farrell. This is a liquid highlighter that gives the skin an instant useful glow. Applied after primer and before foundation it helps to give that gorgeous dewy effect. As with the HD Foundation, it can be used on all skin types especially dry and mature skin. I don’t use this during the day, simply because I don’t feel the necessity for it and simply don’t have the time to add another product into my routine. However, I’m using it with brides and clients as well as on night’s out.
Retail Price – €32

Lancome artliner

Lancôme Artliner – This has totally changed my make up look in the last month and I pretty much use it everyday. I always used to use a liquid eyeliner when I was younger but then as a makeup artist always got used to using a gel eyeliners. Anyway, I’ve rediscovered the benefits of the liquid ones and this is a fantastic product. It’s one of those products that when you mention it to people they say ‘Oh yeah, I use that, it’s brilliant’. I even found it in my mum’s makeup bag this weekend as a daily essential of hers!!! The foam tip is the perfect size to create a feline flick and makes it quick enough to build it up if desired, it glides on easily and is very long lasting.
Retail Price – €28

F22__68909_1382137993_1280_1280

Blank Canvas F22 HD Dome Face Brush – Again, a new discovery to me thanks to my January PowderPocket box, this brush really impressed me and was great to use with my Buff Foundation. It’s part of their HD Face Collection and can be used for foundation, blush or contour application and with either liquid, cream, powder or mineral foundations. It’s made of synthetic fibres which makes it easy to clean as well. If you’re on the hunt for some good quality make up brushes and don’t want to break the bank in the process, its definitely worth checking out www.blankcanvascosmetics.com as they are really reasonably priced. I will definitely be making some more purchases…next on my wish list is the F20 Flat Buffer Brush.
Retail Price – €13.99

P_Lips_Lipstick_Colorburst_Lip_Butter

Revlon Lip Butters – I treated myself to a couple of these last month and previously mentioned them in a post (click here). My favourite is Tutti Frutti which I wear all the time, a soft coral, peach colour. As they are similar to a lip balm but with colour and good pigmentation, they do not dry the lips, in fact they are quite hydrating. You can simply dab it on with your finger to give a subtle sheen of colour or build it up to almost a lipstick. Currently available in 21 shades.
Retail Price – €11.20

I’ve really enjoyed testing and discovering lots of new products this month and I’ve had lots of queries for weddings and bridal make up this month, so lots keeping me busy. What products have you been loving this month?

PowderPocket

My second luxury box arrived from PowderPocket yesterday, which I was hugely excited about. It does come with a certain ‘Christmas morning’ feel to it, not knowing what’s inside the box. I was a little late in getting the launch box, so am still testing out the products. However, as I now have this one, I thought I’d do a quick preview on it to show what’s inside and will follow up with a full review. So far, it’s looking really good. This month the motto is ‘Save Our Skin’, which is focusing on revitalising the skin after all the festivities. I know my skin has been needing some TLC, having had 3 colds in a month. So this box comes at the perfect time!

Powderpocket January 14 008Powderpocket January 14 009

The products this month are;

  • La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water – I am a MASSIVE fan of this brand and use a lot of their products, so am really keen to try this out
  • Benecos Natural Kajal Black eyeliner – a natural and vegan cosmetics brand. This product has an active ingredient of Jojoba Oil so should be really nice and creamy to use.
  • Lavera Basis Sensitiv Hand Cream – I always have hand cream in my handbag as my hands are always dry in this weather, so will definitely get good use out of this.
  • Pixy Natural Skincare Citrus Spring Soap – this is the Irish product in the box, hailing from Cork.
  • Ginvera Green Tea Marvel Gel – a cleanser that claims to exfoliate, invigorate and illuminate the skin – let’s hope so!

So far, I have been really impressed with the products in last months box. I used the tan last night and it turned out really well. It’s easy to see where you are applying it and can build it up for a darker colour. The most impressive thing about it, is that it dries super fast. As a devoted St Tropez user, I’m definitely going to be cheating on my old faithful and continue to use Academie Bronz’Express. The Hugo Boss Jour Pour Femme perfume was a great inclusion as well, I’ve been using this as my everyday perfume and love how fresh and light it is. By far the stand out product of last month’s box was the Blank Canvas Cosmetics F22 brush. Fantastic and easy to use with liquid and cream products and as a make up artist, I will definitely be purchasing some more of their brushes. It makes the whole box such great value, seeing as this retails at €13.99 alone!

Full review of this months box coming soon.
