April Favourites

All the chocolate eggs have been eaten and another month has passed and that means another lot of products that I have discovered (or rediscovered in some cases), that I thought I’d tell you about. Here;’s what I have been loving throughout the month of April;

REN Serum

REN Serum

REN SKINCARE – ‘Keep Young and Beautiful Firming and Smoothing Serum’ – I figured it was time to grow up and stop relying on serum samples that I get everytime I order something online! So I did a bit of research and found Ren Skincare very helpful on Twitter and decided on this particular serum. It is a bit of a minefield choosing skincare products, so definitely worth looking into what’s right for your skin. So far, I’m really happy with this one. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and apply it both morning and evening time after I’ve toned my skin and before I apply my moisturiser. It’s not cheap at €54, but claims to keep your skin looking younger for longer by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which is always a winner in my eyes. I also think that it will last me a few months so it’s not too bad. There is one thing I really don’t like about this product and it’s the smell. When you really rub it into the skin it just doesn’t have a pleasant smell which really annoys me!! (silly I know). My skin definitely feels smoother and softer to touch so I’m going to keep with it and hopefully reap the benefits.
Available from http://www.cloud10beauty.com for €54

Tanya Burr - Champagne Toast Lip Gloss

Tanya Burr – Champagne Toast Lip Gloss

Tanya Burr – Champagne Toast – Whilst I do try to make an attempt to wear more colour on my lips, I just can’t help myself by going back to the neutrals and this lip gloss to me is just perfect. Worn on it’s own it’s a gorgeous glassy effect that is a sort of clear, golden colour. It’s also the perfect gloss to put over lipstick and I’ve been wearing it over my Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter and my Charlotte Tilbury ‘Penelope Pink’ lipstick. Every time I wear it, I always get compliments (which is always nice). Plus it smells divine!
Available from http://www.feelunique.com or http://www.cloud10beauty.com for €8.50

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream – This has to be my stand out product from all my PowderPocket boxes so far. I had previously been using the L’Oreal Nude Magique CC Cream if I didn’t want to go for a fuller coverage and was having a ‘less make up’ day. But I did find that it gives my skin a bit of an orangey colour and if I’m not tanned or just looking a bit pale, it’s really noticeable. The Ginvera BB Cream does everything you want from a BB Cream. The Ginvera Green Tea Skin Care range hails from Singapore and is much loved through out South-East Asia. It’s enriched with premium Green Tea, Ginseng, Chinese Angelica and Hyaluronic Acid. This BB cream provides the benefits of blemish free concealing, sun block effects (SPF 30), moisturising and reduction of lines, providing a long lasting smooth and ultra light feel to nourish and perfect your skin. It says it’s suitable for all skin tones, but I’m not sure how it would look on a really dark skin. I love how this goes on the skin and it really does give the skin a flawless look. If you had any really red blemishes then you probably would need to add some concealer. I’ve just repurchased this as I will be included in my hospital bag when I have the baby, as it’s the perfect skincare product to make me look more human. A total winner all round and it gets a big thumbs up from me!
Available from http://www.janiro.co.uk for £18 + P&P

Sleek Make Up Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Make Up Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Make Up EyeBrow Stylist – I purchased the medium in this and was intrigued to see if it would be a good alternative to the Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift pencils, as I can only lust after these. I have been pleasantly surprised by the cheaper Sleek option. At first I wasn’t too taken with it, but after giving it another try, it’s now my everyday brow product. I find that the waxy pencil gives a really nice look to the brows that is quite natural which is due to the rich creamy formula which is matte and velvety. I also love the fact that at the other end of the pencil there is a brush to groom the brows into place. The tip is thicker than most normal eyebrow pencils which means that you can make both thin and thick strokes for outlining and filling.
Available on http://www.cloud10beauty.com or http://www.sleekmakeup.com for €7.49

Blank Canvas E10 Brush

Blank Canvas E10 Brush

Blank Canvas E10 (Small Socket Blending Brush) – This little beauty was a free gift with my last order from Blank Canvas and had been rather neglected until recently. It’s turned out to be an absolutely fantastic brush. As someone that doesn’t have huge space between my eyelids and my brow, some blending brushes can sometimes be a little too large and you don’t tend to get the exact look you are looking to achieve. Thanks to the fine bundle of fluffy bristles, it really just concentrates product into the crease whilst still blending it. It’s also great for getting a really defined shade into the crease if that’s the look you’re going for. I will definitely be purchasing another one for my kit.
Available from http://www.blankcanvascoosmetics.com for €6.99

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation – I had forgotten that I had this foundation tucked away in my make up collection as hadn’t used it for a couple of months and had therefore forgotten how good it is. Nars Sheer Glow will always be my outright favourite foundation, but this comes very close to it. It is essentially almost a perfect match for it. The coverage is medium, but can be built to a fuller coverage when buffed into the skin. The finish leaves a slight illuminating, fresh glow, without being too much, which is exactly like the Nars one. It claims it lasts all day, but I’m not sure it would on combination skins. If you have a normal or slightly dry skin type then I’d say you’d have no bother with this. Overall a fantastic dupe for the Sheer Glow given it is a third of the price.
Available from Boots and pharmacies nationwide for €9.95

So that’s what I’ve been loving for the month of April. What’s you’re stand out products of April been?

Thanks for reading.

Purple Bridal Look

The second of this month’s bridal looks is using purples which would be ideal for a winter wedding to give that slightly darker look. Whilst a lot of brides tend to go for neutral colours such as browns and golds, its always nice to have other options for brides that want something slightly different. Purple is always a winner for those that have brown, hazel or green eyes, it really makes them pop and you only need to use a hint of colour to transform a look.

Below is a product list that I used to achieve this look and a little information on how it was applied:

Primer – Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – I would always recommend using a primer for bridal make up as it will help the make up last all day (and night)
Buff Make Up Sheer Glow – in Movie Star – this gives a really nice glow to the skin. A small amount applied all over the face with a foundation brush
Foundation – BUFF HD Foundation – really well buffed into the skin to give a medium to full coverage. This foundation is suitable for all skin types and will leave the skin with a satin finish.
Concealer – MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – under the eyes, down the centre of the nose, through the brow bone, on the cupid’s bow and in the centre of the chin
Contour – Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel to contour and bronze the cheeks and then a little MAC Harmony just to go over it in the hollows of the cheeks (again layering is key)
Blush – MAC Pinch O’Peach – this is a really nice matt soft pink colour, applied to the apples of the cheeks and blended upwards towards the ears Face Powder – MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation – I used this to get slightly more coverage on certain parts of the face, but kept the cheeks and nose dewy.
Highlighter – Sleek Face Contour Kit – applied to the top of the cheek bones, through the brow bone, down the centre of the nose and on the cupid’s bow

Base/Primer – MAC Painterly applied all over the lid and up to the brow to give a really even base to work on. This provides a base for the eye shadow to stick to and helps the eye shadow last longer Eye Shadows – MAC Yoghurt was applied all over the lid where the Painterly had been applied and blended in. Through the crease MAC Blackberry was then applied using a MAC 217 brush and blended. Using the 239 brush, MAC Blackberry was applied under the lower lashline to give some definition to the eyes.
Eyeliner – Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Eyeliner in Black – along the top lash line following the natural shape of the eye and winging it up to create a feline flick.. To make the eyes open up a little I used MAC Naked Liner pencil on the inside of the lower lash line.
Highlighter – MAC Vanilla through the brow bone and on the inside tear duct
Brows – Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown
Mascara – Maybelline The Flashies in Black on top and bottom lashes
Lashes – Amazing Shine lashes in no 747-S

Lip Liner – MAC Spice Lip Liner
Lipstick – Maybelline Pink Brown
(not available anymore)
Gloss – MAC Deelight

Are you getting married and is this something that you would wear on your wedding day?

Thanks for reading and have a fab week.

Naked 3 Palette Look

It’s started off being a pretty miserable day here in Galway, so I thought what better way to cheer myself up than to do a look using my ‘go to eye shadow palette of the moment’…..the Naked 3 Palette. I got this for Christmas and having never purchased any of it’s predecessors, I’m delighted with this one. Full of rosey gold hues, it wouldn’t be by normal everyday options, but it’s pushed me slightly out of my comfort zone in terms of colour, and I’m liking it!!!

Before you look at any of the images, I must apologise for the quality of the photos, my lighting is not the best. Plus, and it’s a BIG PLUS…..my ‘no make up face’ picture is pretty bad…..I can only apologise. It’s a severe case of pregnancy insomnia for the last 6 months that I think has aged me about 40 years!!!!

So, onto the look and the pictures and products;

Sleek Face Contour Kit Highlighter in Medium

MAC Blush in Dame

MAC Paintpot in Painterly
Eye Shadows – Strange, Dust, Buzz, Nooner, Mugshot and Blackheart – Strange was used on the inner part of the eye, Dust over the middle and outer half and then Buzz was used through the crease. I also used Nooner through the crease to add some extra definition as Buzz is a shimmer shade and so needed some extra depth to it. Mugshot and Blackheart were then used on the lower lashline.
Eyeliner –
Lancôme Artliner on the top lashline and MAC Coffee pencil on the lower waterline.
Eyebrows – MAC Eyeshadow in Espresso
Mascara – YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll

Lipgloss – Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in Picnic in the Park – this is fast becoming my favourite lipgloss of the moment.

Do you have this palette? If so, what do you think of it?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and thanks for reading.

Spring Look using High Street Make Up

This is the first of my Friday posts that will feature a new look each week. Given that this week has given us a spring in our steps with the lovely appearance of the sun, I thought it was appropriate … Continue reading

November Favourites

So this month, I’ve decided to do a ‘Favourites’ post as there are quite a few products that I have been loving this month. Hopefully I will be able to keep this up, although can’t promise it will be every month. So here we go……these are what I have been loving and using lots of this month,

YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll Mascara

Babydoll mascara

I wouldn’t normally be one for purchasing high end mascaras as I really do think that the high street has this particular area wrapped up. However, something made me purchase this when I was buying my face cleanser from http://www.feelunique.com. Anyway, I’m delighted I did sneak it into my order. I can honestly say that this is my favourite mascara ever! That’s quite a claim, given that I didn’t think that anything could top Maybelline The Falsies mascara. The wand has very small spikey bristles, which ensures that it coats every lash without any clumps at all, and makes it much easier to reach those small lashes that a bigger, fatter wand wouldn’t enable you to. It’s also the perfect wand for coating the lower lashes. As I have straight upper lashes, I curl them every day before applying my mascara and this product really does hold that curl all day. However, I did find that the tube has begun to dry up already and I’ve only had it 2 months, which I don’t think is great for the price you are paying. But overall, an amazing mascara. I paid £24.50 for this and as much as I would love to repurchase it, I just think it’s too much for a mascara. ;-(

Sleek Contour Kit in Medium

This is definitely one of my ‘Holy Grail’ products. I bought this last year over in the UK from Superdrug. Sleek are by far one of the most under rated brands in the make up universe. They manage to bring out fantastic dupes for high end brands, such as Nars Blush in ‘Orgasm’, Sleek’s is called ‘Rose Gold’.  Their products are fantastic quality and retail at an amazing price. Their Contour Kit is no exception. I have the medium palette and literally use this every day to define my chubby cheeks. The colour is perfect for me, really pigmented, matte and really easy to blend. The highlighter powder is really fine, which ensures that it doesn’t enlarge pores when on the skin – it’s a similar colour to MAC’s Soft & Gentle, but a much better quality product. This one cost me £6.49, but Sleek products can be purchased on http://www.beautyemporium.ie and http://www.cloud10beauty.com.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in the colour Eclipse

Nov 13 Favourites images 019Nov 13 Favourites images 017Rimmel really are the Kings of high street lip products. I have quite a few of their lipsticks in my kit and find the texture and lasting power very good. Recently, I have been looking for a rich plum colour lipstick for winter that lasts as I’m no good at topping up my lipstick and this is the business. Every time I wear it people not only comment on the colour but the look of it as well. The range now comes in 13 shades from nudes to festive bright reds. Eclipse is a plum colour and perfect for this time of year. The applicator has a little well in the middle of it which collects product, so just be wary when you put it on, it transfers a lot of product. The consistency is really creamy and opaque with fantastic colour pay off. It’s a satin finish that actually ends up drying matte, which means that the staying power is great, even after eating and drinking. I bought mine in Boots for €7.95. I’m not a huge fan of the packaging, as with most high street make up, but for the price, it’s a fantastic product.

Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Colour – Rock N Roll

Nov 13 Favourites images 028Another Rimmel product, a nail varnish this time. Out of all my nail polishes that I own, Rimmel are the brand that feature the most as the quality is excellent, far better than some of my high end brands. Their Salon Pro range really does what it says on the tin. It probably would last for 10 days as it claims, but I get bored after about 7 and want to change colour. I bought Rock N Roll as I was looking for a festive red. I also own Soul Session, Celebrity Bash, Night Flight and Hot List. I always apply a top coat and this definitely keeps it looking fresher for longer.

Cloon Keen Atelier candle – Christmas Pomander

Nov 13 Favourites images 008Whilst this is not a make up product, these candles are an absolute staple in my life – there is always one burning in my kitchen. If ever my husband is stuck for what to buy me for Christmas or Birthday, this is a winner and my mum is now addicted to them as well. I have worked my way through most of their collection, and been purchasing their candles since I moved back to Ireland 6 years ago. My favourites tend to be Cassis Leaf and Gooseberry Leaf, but at this time of year I always purchase their Christmas scent. This year it’s called ‘Christmas Pomander’ and is a mixture of orange, clove and spice. It’s perfect for getting you in the festive mood (along with a sneaky glass of mulled wine). Their scent is strong enough to fill a room, but by far from overpowering and definitely not that horrible sweet smell that you get from a lot of candles. They are just perfection and a Galway company which makes it even better ;-). Check out their store in Kirwins Lane in Galway or online www.cloonkeenatelier.com.
